Reading comprehension can be difficult when students don’t have strong background knowledge or the ability to visualize characters or settings. This resource will help students use illustrations to identify and describe characters, settings, and events.
Students can use this in a very interactive way, by having a small group of students work together to discuss it. To start, students are given an illustration page and they will identify and discuss the character, then they are given another page with a reading passage to see if this makes their reader’s understanding of the characters and settings better.
This Activity aligns with CCSS ELA Literacy Standards:
RL.1.7. Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.
The topics featured in this worksheet are:
✔ Get to know your character
✔ Sort the story elements
✔ Find the evidence (Coloring activity)
